Heart pattern
For this you will need
DK yarn
4mm crochet hook
wool needle
Toy stuffing
Stitch holder
Abbreviations
SC single crochet
INC increase (2 SC into stitch)
DEC decrease (single crochet 2 stitches together)
To make a heart you make 2 circles, join them together, then work round both circles decreasing as you go to form the point of the heart.
To start circle 1 working in a spiral throughout.
Use contrasting pieces of yarn to mark the beginning of the row.
Stitch count
row 1 - 6SC into magic ring (6)
Row 2- INC around (12)
Row 3- "1SC INC" around (18)
Row 4- "2SC INC" around (24)
Cut yarn and leave working loop on a stitch holder
Repeat the instructions for the first circle so you have 2 circles but do not cut the yarn on your second circle.
Now to join the circles.
To do this you should already have your second circle with the working loop on your hook. Now add the working loop for the first circle and using both stitches together SC in the next stitch on the first circle. Then continue in SC working round the 23 stitches of your first circle, then round the 23 stitches of you second circle. This will form a nice figure of 8 shape which you will continue to work around for the rest of the heart. see below, That gap in the middle is normal.
Row 6- SC around (46)
Row 7- 21SC DEC twice (44)
Row 8- "9SC DEC" around (40)
Row 9- "8SC DEC" around (36)
Row 10- "4SC DEC" around (30)
Row 11-end "3SC DEC" around (no need to mark rounds now just continue working round and round in your spiral until you have 4 stiches left at the point of your heart. Stuff as you go
Bind off and cut yarn leaving a long tail.
Using a wool needle close the gap at the base and top of your heart and weave in ends.
If you want a loop to hang your heart use your yarn attach to the top of your heart, loop around your hand then anchor back into the top of the heart and weave in ends.
Sew (or glue if your lazy) on any decoration
These hearts are really quick and easy to make. They use very little yarn and are great for using up oddments. They would look really cute if you added toy eyes and made them into heart people or you could put a lavender sachet inside and make them into a pomander. I'm making up a batch and turning the into bunting for my new craft room
If you make this post me a pic in the comments.
Happy crocheting x

Look at these lovely hearts my friend Boo made using this pattern. I love the little flowers she's put on them. Maybe if we ask her nicely she'll give us the pattern for them.
Whipped three of these up while watching UP! The make up really quickly and are easily the most straightforward and reliable hearts I've ever tried to make. Fab, thanks!
